The Class of 2018 at DeSales Catholic School will commemorate the end of elementary school with a family-centered social, and a Graduation Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Church. The week leading up to the 8th grade graduation is a week filled with tradition, family and faith for the students and their families.

On June 20th, the 8th grade students will dress up for a garden reception with their parents, followed by an 8th grade social in the school's board room, the gracious space that was once a part of the Harrison family home.

Graduation Day for the DeSales 8th graders is Thursday, June 21st. The day of celebration begins with a breakfast honoring the Class of 2018 and their families, hosted by volunteers from the H.S.A. Class of 2018 Salutatorian Emma Flatau, the daughter of Jason and Carla Flatau of Lockport, will address her classmates at the breakfast.  When asked what she would speak about, Emma reflected on her years at DeSales “It is the people at DeSales that make it so special.  We have all grown up together and learned to treat each other with love and respect. God has always been a part of our everyday lives.”  Emma will attend Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart in September.

A Graduation Mass will begin at 7:00pm at St. John the Baptist Church. The top scholar in the Class of 2018 is William Rahill, the son of Sean and Karen Rahill of Lockport. While considering what he will touch on in his Valedictory Address, William said “DeSales has really been like a second home to many of us. We are each so varied and diverse, our love of DeSales brings us together. We all have been given the opportunity to succeed in the future.” William will attend Joseph’s Collegiate Institute in the fall.

The Graduation Mass guest speaker will be DeSales High School alumn and DeSales Distinguished Hall of Fame inductee Rocco Surace, Class of ‘73.  Rocco is a CPA/Partner in the firm of Bonadio & Co., LLP.

Principal Karen Rahill reflected on the current class of DeSales’ eighth graders, “It has been a privilege getting to know these outstanding young men and women first as their technology teacher and then as their principal.  They are ready, willing and more than able to continue their journey as high school students.  I am incredibly proud of everything that they have accomplished at DeSales and wish them happiness and success in all that they do.”

The twenty five members of the DeSales Class of 2018 will move on to success in public and private high schools across the region, including Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart, Cardinal O’Hara, Lockport High School, Canisius, Newfane, Mount St. Mary Academy, Royalton-Hartland High School, St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute, and Starpoint High School.  Members of this year's class earned over $80,000.00 in high school scholarship awards.

DeSales is Eastern Niagara County’s only Catholic School, serving over 300 students in Early Childhood Education through Eighth grade.  For more information call (716) 433-6422 or visit www.desalescatholicschool.org.
