Here Come the Knights

DeSales 2015 Swim Team Highlights

The DeSales Knights Swim Team is set to get back in the water this coming Sunday with strong 8th grade leadership, depth in the 11 and older division, a 9-10 division that has the talent to break league relay and individual records, and youth in the 8 and under division that are looking to carry on the tradition of great swimmers that have graced the pools as Knights.

The Knights are now under new direction and leadership of Greg Wilson who has been named the schools Athletic Director and Marisa Morgan handling the team's management duties and keeping the team running smoothly.

The 8 and under division has Karen Rahill and Denise Wertman as coaches and is leaning on Henry Genewick, Olivia Rongo, Sophia Goyette, Daniel Rahill, Hannah Upshaw, and William Swartz to help score points in meets and encourage and push the new swimmers on the team that are just getting into the sport.

The 9-10 division returns a core group of swimmers that went undefeated in the regular dual meet season last year.  Guided by Aric Morgan and Ron Kershaw on the deck as coaches, the 9-10 year olds are featured with Aidan Morgan, Gracie Cordle, Elizabeth Kershaw, Henry Murphy, and Elizabeth Swartz.  This group of swimmers are going to be interchangeable in both the medley and free relays and have the speed and talent to break the league's long standing relay records.  Adding depth and looking to do damage in the pool are is Anthony Rongo, Cole Smith, Alexa Zglinicki and new standout Natalie Killion.

The 11 and older division are coached by Jennifer Murphy and Julie Smith.  This is the final year as Knights for 8th graders Emily Kush, Owen Miller, James Trometer, Christopher Goyette, Bianca Franco, Ashleigh Cottrell, Sam Murphy and Mark Crocker.  Both Murphy and Crocker have the experience and talent to finish their career as league champions in individual  events.  This age group features depth and support with standouts William Rahill, Henry Smith, Delaney Adams, Evan Chesko, and Trent Smith.

New to the Knight swim family this year are Mary Bidak, Bethany Case, Lily Carriero, Hannah Coder, Alana Davis, Eddie Fritz, Ethan Fritz, Margaret Galley, Natalie Killion, Jillian Knuutila, Mia Masters, Olivia Masters, Isabella Pearl, Natalie Pellicano, Colton Smith, and Isabelle Watson.

DeSales Catholic School is unique in that it has swimmers on the team that start their career as kindergarteners, as long as they swim 25 yards in a pool unassisted and can compete through 8th grade.

The Knights start their season this coming Sunday against St Stephens at Grand Island High School.  The Knights find themselves in Division II this year in the Neumann Catholic league and will be splitting time at Buffalo State College and Canisius College, utilizing their swimming facilities for meets.  The season wraps up in November with league championships, again at the University of Buffalo.
