Bishop Kmiec
Issues Pastoral Letter
Bishop Edward U. Kmiec has written a pastoral letter called "Visioning for the Future" for our Catholic Schools. It is the second pastoral letter he has written since becoming bishop of Buffalo five years ago. The release of the pastoral letter coincides with the issuance of a report on the initial phase of a strategic planning process that objectively assesses the current experiences and status of elementary schools in the diocese. DeSales Library
Now Online
Families now have
access to the DeSales school library online, through
iPAC - internet Public Access Catalog. Thanks to
a grant from a generous supporter, our library's card
catalog was computerized in 2008, and all lending materials
are now checked in and out using a bar code scanner. The
catalog is off-line during the summer months, but is
reactivated when school resumes in the fall.

This
online catalog allows users to search our library’s
holdings in a variety of ways:
Quick
Search allows you to search using keyword,
subject, title, author and several additional options
including “sounds like.”This is a phonetic
search tool which is helpful with hard to spell search
terms and for children that are learning to spell.
Easy
Search allows you to explore the library
using the methods similar to popular search engines.
Advanced
Search options are also available.
Once
a desired item is located, details regarding the book,
including its availability in the library, can be displayed.
Students
can use the web-based catalog to conduct research at
home and create a “bookbag”of desired items.
The bookbag’s contents can be printed and brought
to the library to help locate items much more quickly. Parents
can also search the catalog with their children at home,
to help select materials to borrow on Library Day.

Growing In
Faith
The
strong enrollment at DeSales prompted a major renovation
and expansion effort at our school beginning in 2005. Click
here for more detailed information about our Classroom
and Chapel Expansion project. DeSales is grateful
to Bob Burke and Kevin McKenna
at RB Mac Construction, and Matt McIntyre of
Oakhurst Development for their skill and hard work. The
project wrapped up in the summer of 2007 with the completion
of the Elizabeth Ann Seton Chapel and the three bonus
classrooms on the ground floor. Bishop Kmiec joined our
students for a mass of dedication on October 3, 2007.
You can click

you to all those who generously supported our capital
campaign.

sick and elderly, the unborn, children and families.

no cost. The easiest way to join is to go to www.nyscatholic.org to
sign up. Or you can send your name, address, phone number
and email address to Catholic Advocacy Network, New York
State Catholic Conference, 465 State Street, Albany,
