Novel H1N1 Influenza
The information found here is designed to provide you with current information from the Center for Disease Control, the New York State Department of Health, the NY Statewide School Health Services Center, and the Niagara County Health Department regarding Novel H1N1 Influenza. Please contact your primary care physician if you or any member of your family is experiencing symptoms of Novel H1N1 Influenza which include: fever (Temperature greater than 100.0 F), cough, sore throat, runny nose, body aches, rash, increased fatigue, decreased appetite, pale appearance, glassy eyes (dark circles) and lack of energy. Consult with your primary care physician regarding immunization for H1N1 and traditional influenza. The New York State Department of Health has a H1N1 hotline: 1-800-808-1987.
Methods of Prevention include:
- Washing hands often with soap and warm water. Alcohol based hand sanitizers are also effective.
- Avoid close contact with people who are ill.
- Use a tissue when coughing, sneezing or spitting, and dispose of the tissue properly.
- Keep hands away from your face, eyes, nose or mouth.
- Regular cleaning of common household surfaces.
- Refrain from sharing personal items, such as forks, spoons, cups and personal care items (toothbrushes, towels).
- Keep your child home from school if they have a fever, or appear ill.
- Seek medical attention from your physician office if any symptoms appear.
- Avoid the Use of medications containing Aspirin. Tylenol (Acetaminophen) and Motrin(Ibuprofen) are acceptable to use.
Stay in good general health, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
