Our Character Education Program encompasses the entire student body of DeSales Catholic School. The focus on building strong character in even the youngest child ensures that every graduate of DeSales Catholic School gains a strong foundation of values and morals rooted in the Catholic faith. DeSales students are taught to demonstrate what they learn by giving, aiding and supporting others as a responsible member of society.
In the tradition of the teachings of our patron, St. Francis de Sales, students are given numerous opportunities to offer service to their school, churches and communities. Middle school students may participate in organizations like National Junior Honor Society, St. Francis Society and Student Senate to learn the skills needed for a lifetime of leadership.
Each month all students learn about the various components of great character by concentrating on a key virtue. These virtues are reinforced in our comprehensive school counseling curriculum lessons, morning announcements, and activities designed and implemented by members of our school’s Character Club.
The virtues that we will be concentrating on for the 2014-2015 school year include:
- September/October: Responsibility
- November: Initiative
- December: Self-Control
- January: Empathy
- February: Resourcefulness
- March: Tolerance
- April: Creativity
- May: Perseverance
- June: Endurance
